Proof Research 6.5CM AR Type Steel Barrel
Proof Research 6.5CM AR Type Steel Barrel have set the standard for what a 6.5CM Barrel should be. The steel barrels are made in house with the exact same commitment to quality and repeatability as they employ on carbon fiber barrels. The drilling, rifling, and lapping process is identical to their composite barrels. They start with the same steel used in the carbon fiber barrels. It is a double stress-relieved 416R stainless steel, a pre-hardened chromium stainless steel that was specifically designed by engineers in collaboration with rifle barrel makers to provide the consistent, high quality and durability the firearms industry demands.
Proof Research 6.5CM AR Type Steel Barrel Features
Excellent machinability for gun drilling and reaming, plus exceptional polishability for uniform lapping
A homogeneous microstructure which responds to heat treatment providing a uniform hardness along the length of the barrel
An optimum combination of high tensile strength along with requisite toughness to withstand extreme chamber pressures encountered during firing
Excellent erosion wear characteristics and corrosion resistance

Last week I picked up the 24 inch Proof Research 6.5 Creedmoor barrel to go on my Aero Precision m5 build. Kenzie’s Optics service was absolutely excellent and answered a few questions I had same day and the barrel showed up at my door a few days later. For those of you wondering the gas tube comes with the barrel and the barrel is dimpled for a set screw gas block. The fit and finish of the barrel is excellent. After mounting it to my upper, I ran some patches down the bore and they came out completely clean so there was no left over junk from machining left in the barrel. My build is a PRS focused gas gun built on Aero Precision M5 receivers with PVA Shockwave brake, SLR adjustable gas block, JP LMOS BCG, JP SCS buffer, Geiselle SSA-E trigger, and I have a PST Gen II 5-25x for now. I zeroed the rifle in 5 shots and then proceeded to shoot a 0.57″ five shot group at 100 yards immediately after… I shot a few more groups afterwards that were all sub-moa and VERY close to 1/2 minute groups. For doing 0 load development and being a brand new barrel, that is certainly impressive. I chose not to do any break in procedure and just put 50 rounds through the gun and went home and cleaned it thoroughly. I wasn’t able to find much about this barrel online, but it’s an absolute hammer. I’d say go ahead and buy with confidence.
